week 9 - FTP (file transfer protocol)

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to copy a file from one host to another over a TCP/IP-based network, such as the Internet.

FTP is built on a client-server architecture and utilizes separate control and data connections between the client and server. FTP is used with user-based password authentication or with anonymous user access.

Wikipedia definition of FTP

You have all signed up for web space supplied by the university, with enough space to host a website.

Online webspace is like having a USB Hard-drive which is held on the internet.

FTP is the way in which we transfer data on and off our server space.

Check to see if your web space is working by goin to this site
